A leaked video by a French blogger, Sonny Dickson, flaunts the strength of a piece of sapphire glass, which could just be the front panel on the rumoured iPhone 6’s 4.7-inch display. The video shows how the glass prevents cracks despite the blogger trying to bend the glass will all his strength.

So what makes the sapphire cover so special? If reports are to be believed, sapphire glass is extremely durable as it’s the only material said to be harder than diamond. The toughness also makes it pretty resilient to scratches from bumps and knocks. It’s therefore used in many high-end watches and camera lenses. It is also considered to be a stronger alternative to Corning’s Gorilla Glass, currently used by Apple. Apple already uses sapphire glass protection for the fingerprint scanner and camera lens on its flagship iPhone 5s.

Followed by Sonny, another video by MKBHD reviewer Marques Brownlee also, with great conviction, states that the new iPhone will feature a 4.7 inch curved screen with a sapphire glass display. He clearly says “this isn’t a mockup. This is an actual, straight-off-the-assembly-line iPhone 6 part from Apple.”

It must be noted that sapphire glass is pretty expensive to produce, which means you can expect the iPhone 6 to cost a lot more than the iPhone 5s.
