NEW DELHI: BlackBerry has launched Z3, its new budget device in India at Rs 15,990. The phone will be available for pre-order starting today via select e-commerce websites and BlackBerry stores.
Among the first devices made by Foxconn for the company, BlackBerry Z3 sports a 5-inch qHD (540x960p) display. It is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8230) dual-core processor and 1.5GB RAM. The phone runs BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1, the latest iteration of the OS.
It also features a version of BlackBerry Maps that offers 2D maps, local search, and 3D voice guided turn-by-turn directions for users in India. The BlackBerry keyboard also supports Hindi and Hinglish predictive input.
The phone sports a 5MP rear camera and a 1.1MP front-facing camera. The smartphone comes with 8GB storage and a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 32GB. It has a 2500mAh battery, which the company claims, offers up to 15.5 hours talk time and up to 16.2 days of standby time. In terms of connectivity options, the phone offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, FM radio and GPS.
BlackBerry had launched the Z3 in Indonesia, last month at IDR 2,199,000 (approximately Rs 11,000). However, it is worth pointing out that the phone had received a subsidy from telecom carriers in the market.
In India, BlackBerry Z3 will face stiff competition from the likes of Motorola Moto G, which comes with a 4.5-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera, dual-sim functionality and the latest version of Android.
Moto G comes in two storage options, 8 and 16GB; it does not support microSD cards, but offers free 50GB Google Drive storage (along with the 15GB free storage that comes with every Google account). The 8GB version is priced at Rs 12,499 while the 16GB one costs Rs 13,999.
